Goals scare me, mostly because of the “what would happen if” factor. But I think writing and sharing them will help me to stay focused. And I’ve already decided that 2014 was going to be a great year, so… Let’s go!
The first goal this year is to keep writing and publishing. Paper Ghosts did very well for a first book in a short format, self-published by some French expatriate in the UK, and it gave me the confidence to keep going. Two books this year? I can do it!
My organisation skills are awful though. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t touch a manuscript for weeks, and then goes back to it and spends sleepless nights finishing it. So this year will be about setting up a couple of hours per day to focus on my stories… And sticking to it.
I also need to think about how to define my writings. Paper Ghosts , Heaven Tonight and Revenants (The Returned) all deal with ghosts, whether in their supernatural or metaphoric form. “Young Adult with ghosts” seems a bit restricted though…”Stories for people who like it short”? If you have any idea, let me know!
Another good resolution : No desk jobs anymore. I spent the last few years going from one admin job to another, and that didn’t make me happy. So I’m going freelance and I’m attending a sub-editing course this month. The goal? part-time sub, part-time writer!
On a more personal level, the goal is to listen to myself more. Confidence (lack of) is the reason why I’ve wasted so many years, waiting and hiding, instead of going for what I really wanted. No more fears. Let’s take some risks!
What are your goals for this year folks?
